Promoting Conservation Awareness and Empowering Local Communities

Wild Horizons endeavors to minimize negative effects on the natural and social environment whilst maintaining economic viability of the company. They safeguard Zimbabwe’s rich biodiversity, champion visitor fulfillment and promote community well-being for the benefit of future generations.

We began supporting Wild Horizons in 2024 with the funding of their biogas digesters programme.

Biogas Digesters

Wild Horizons and the Victoria Falls Wildlife Trust demonstrate their strong commitment to environmental sustainability through the introduction of alternative energy solutions in rural communities. Recognizing the harmful effects of deforestation on both local habitats and global ecosystems, they have actively promoted the use of biogas digesters. In regions where trees are being extensively cut for firewood, these digesters provide a sustainable and practical alternative.

Utilizing readily available resources like domestic animal dung and water, biogas digesters offer a renewable energy source that reduces the need for firewood. Zimbabwe’s electricity shortages have intensified reliance on firewood, accelerating deforestation and leading to the loss of hundreds of thousands of hectares annually. Against this backdrop, the biogas digester emerges as a crucial solution, addressing the root causes of deforestation by curbing the demand for wood fuel while offering a viable and eco-friendly energy alternative.

Since 2024 the Trust has helped:
