Towards a Future Where Humans Live InHarmony With Wildlife

The Tikki Hywood Foundation (THF) is a non-profit, wildlife orientated organisation. It strives to bring recognition, awareness and sustainable conservation action to lesser known endangered species, such as the highly endangered Pangolin.

We began supporting THF in 2023 with funds being directed to various projects across Zimbabwe.

Anti Wildlife Crime Campaign

Due to global socio-economic circumstances and recession, it has been well documented that crimes of all kinds are being committed. Globally and in Zimbabwe, wildlife are a primary target. Many in our population, who may not normally resort to crime, are being pushed into situations by being manipulated by both international and national criminal elements into committing crimes against fauna and flora. Tikki’s campaign seeks to enlighten the general population to the fact that wildlife crime is illegal and Zimbabwe, as a country, takes crimes against their national heritage very seriously.

THF designed a campaign to specifically bring awareness to combat all manner of Wildlife Crime in Zimbabwe. THF have the approval and collaboration of the three government entities pertaining to the protection of wildlife in Zimbabwe ( ZRP, ZimParks and the NPA) to deliver this campaign.

Rescue, Rehabilitation and Release of orphaned, injured and/or displaced wildlife is the main focus of the THF. With rehabilitation centres across Zimbabwe and a presence in Cameroon, the THF provides a safe place for injured or trafficked animals.

Through their experiences they have realised that there is a niche often overlooked in wildlife conservation - the preservation of species that lack the charisma and appeal of the larger, more publicised rare animals.

The pangolin has subsequently become the Foundation’s flagship species, as it has earned the notorious reputation of being the world’s most trafficked mammal. Yet unlike the Rhino, Tiger and Elephant, the Pangolin is an animal which most people have not seen or heard about, let alone know that it is on the verge of extinction. Throughout the history of Zimbabwe, wildlife has been considered one of our most prominent assets. However, due to socio-economic upheaval in our recent history, this asset has significantly declined through poaching and illegal wildlife trade and is now viewed more as a commodity, rather than a heritage for future generations.
